AAUP-FM facilitates a more effective cooperation of teachers and research scholars in universities and colleges, defends academic freedom, encourages faculty participation in governance, protects and advances the professional status and interests of all faculty, facilitates the dissemination of information on higher education principles and practices, informs the academic community about AAUP standards and policy statements, participates in the state conference of chapters, and develops necessary and proper chapter programs for the accomplishment of the aforementioned purposes (Chapter Bylaws, Article II).
